Vicki Tiegs named Illawarra Citizen of the Year 2018
Waples Marketing Group Director and co-founder Vicki Tiegs has been named Wollongong’s 2018 Citizen of the Year.
The highest category in the City of Wollongong Australia Day Awards 2018, the recognition is both a surprise and honour for Vicki, who has been championing the Illawarra since relocating from Rockhampton 22 years ago.
“There is so much growth and opportunity which is a good thing. I am thankful to be living in a city that embraces its challenges, comes together in good times and bad and lives up to its reputation as a city of innovation,” Vicki said.
Vicki has worked tirelessly as the Chair of the International Women’s Day Illawarra committee for 13 years. To date, the charity has raised more than $250,000 for women in the Illawarra. Vicki is also a member of the Legacy Business and Community Lunch committee, an organisation she holds close to her heart following the death of her father during his second mission in the Malaysian conflict.
Completing Vicki’s community involvement, she has also been involved in various organisations that support the Illawarra community, including the Centenary of Anzac Illawarra committee, National Breast Cancer Foundation committee and HIM Festival.
“It truly was a great honour to be named Wollongong Citizen of the Year. Like many others, we do our bit in the community to make a difference, not for recognition,” Vicki said. “But it is always appreciated if someone says thanks or well done. It reminds you that you are making a contribution that is valued.”
