Stars of Wollongong Shine Bright for Cancer Council NSW

The Stars of Wollongong Dance For Cancer has grown to become one of the Illawarra’s most popular fundraising events. Now in its third year, the event pits high profile local personalities in the ultimate dance off gala event to support Cancer Council NSW’s programs in the region. But their hard work goes far beyond one night. For three months before the June 3 event, dancers organise their own fundraising campaigns. They also rehearse for hours on end with expert partners from Kazzajazz Modern Dance Studio.

In 2016, dancers raised $92,000 for Cancer Council NSW. This year, 14 competitors from Wollongong Local Area Command – NSW Police Force’s Rima Elhage, to i98FM’s Maje Saba, have already raised more than $80,000.

Joining this year’s line-up is our resident publicist Nathan Brown. But he has some very popular tap shoes to fill. In 2016, his mother, Destination Wollongong Chair Tania Brown tapped her way to a People’s Choice victory. But, “I’m not worried,” Nathan assures. Confident and comfortable on camera, Nathan is also a co-host on Illawarra’s online lifestyle program In the Loop. But before he faces the critique of star judges including Studio 10 (WIN Network) co-hosts Jessica Rowe and Joe Hildebrand on June 3, how does he honestly rate his dance skills? “I’ve performed in amateur musical productions—I’m no stranger to a kick ball change, box step or shimmy!”

For the second year running, Waples and Bluejuice Events is a partner of the Stars of Wollongong Dance For Cancer event, providing marketing, PR and event management support. Good luck to Nathan and every contestant for their dedication to this very worthy cause in the Illawarra and beyond. Find out more:
